AMENDMENT TO THE RULES COMMITTEE PRINT OF H.R. 1947 OFFERED BY MR. RADEL OF FLORIDA

Page 590, beginning on line 18, strike section 12101 and insert the following new section:

SEC. 12101. REPEAL OF THE NATIONAL SHEEP INDUSTRY IMPROVEMENT CENTER. Effective October 1, 2013, section 375 of the Consolidated Farm and Rural Development Act (7 U.S.C. 2008j) is repealed.

That was it. With just a few words, my amendment took the handouts for the sheep industry and killed them. The handouts, not the sheep.

Greg said, “So next we’ll have to go before the Rules Committee.” Not having been through this process, I hung on to every word Greg said. “We’ll have a time scheduled, and you will present your case to them. You’ll sit down at a table in front of their committee. You’ll intro the bill and give your argument. After that, they’ll have some questions for you. Then they’ll decide whether or not the House will debate and eventually vote on our amendment.”

Still looking down at the bill, I yelled, “Sheep shearing!”

Greg calmly replied, “Sheep shearing.”

I couldn’t resist. “Sounds like a baaaad time.”

But the puns and ridiculousness were just getting started.
